2014.0108 ORGANISATION STRUCTURE OF THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE - 1969 REPORT [1969-1969] Creator(s): University Of Melbourne. Faculty Of Science [-] This report was commissioned arising from meeting 1 of the "Committee on Faculty of Science Organisation and Administration" held on June 10, 1969. P-E Consulting were engaged to undertake a study of the Faculty of Science and produce a report on their findings. P-E Consulting's work commenced on June 23, 1969 with their report being completed on October 31, 1969. The reports in this series comprise one copy of the "Full Report" and two copies of the "Abridged Report". The objectives of P-E Consulting's assignment were: "1. To make recommendations on the future role of the Dean of the Faculty of Science and 2. To examine the existing organisation structure of the Faculty Office, including both the Sub-Deanery and the Faculty Secretary's Office, and to recommend the most suitable redistribution of duties between members of the Faculty Office staff; 3. To examine current procedures and clerical methods used at the Faculty Office and recommend improvements; 4. To carry out a study of attitudes toward the Faculty Office amongst students engaged in science courses". The report was scathing, not only on the weakness and lack of co-ordination in the Faculty Office but also on the "appalling picture" of it that emerged from a survey of student attitudes: a "negative place", providing new students with a "traumatic experience". Another result of the report was to look externally for a new Dean, with Professor C.A. Ramm appointed, although this did not occur until 1972. 1 box (0.12 m) University, official
