The files contain lists of people invited to the Vice-Chancellor's "at home" parties. Multiple lists often exist for any one year, being annotated to indicate acceptance or refusal of the invitation. From about 1974 onwards the series contains a copy of the invitation, lists of guests, letters of acceptance and letters of apology. Those invited generally included Council members, Professors, Professors Emeritus, Deans, Heads of Colleges and Halls of Residence, Administration Staff, Convocation, Associate Professors, judges, Ministers of State and those on the "Private List" (assumed to be the Vice-Chancellor's personal friends) etc.
