This series of speech notes, addresses, articles and related papers of J M (Malcolm) Fraser dates from early March 1972, when he was Minister for Education and Science in the McMahon Government to February 1983, shortly before the end of his own Government. It includes the period when he was an Opposition spokesman (1973- 75) and, more particularly, Leader of the Opposition (March-November 1975) during the Whitlam Labor Government. The speeches were given to various professional and business associations, Parliament, Liberal Party branches, community organisations, civic receptions, political rallies, etc. They cover a wide range of subjects to suit the audience or focus on particular political issues. Subject include open government, rural production, primary industry, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, Commonwealth-State relations, mining industry, industrial relations, inflation, interest rates, petrol prices, health policy, Australia's relationship with South East Asia, etc. The series is essentially filed in chronological order, each file recording the date, occasion and sometimes title of the speech.
