Subject files held by the Principal Private Secretary. This series was maintained in the Office of the Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister J M (Malcolm) Fraser. It covers the period from November 1975 ('Caretaker' Government) to July 1981 (first half of the fourth Fraser Ministry), although most of the papers date between 1976 and 1979. The Principal Private Secretary at the time was Dale Budd (1975-1979). The series covers a broad range of subjects. At a governmental and parliamentary level these include Ministry reorganisation, abolition of or changes to government departments, Ministerial and staff arrangements, appointments and resignations. Other papers focus more generally on Commonwealth-state relations, the economy, budget, unemployment, wage restraint, income tax and business incentive. Three items only are currently held at the University of Melbourne Archives (see list for details). Formerly National Archives of Australia series M1356.
