2007.0019 SUBJECT FILES [1973-1975] Creator(s): Fraser, John Malcolm [1930-2015] This series includes correspondence and published material on various subjects and was maintained by J M (Malcolm) Fraser or, on his behalf, by his staff (in particular his Press Secretary). The files relate mainly to the period Fraser was a member of the Opposition during the Whitlam Labor Government (1972-75), but prior to his becoming Leader of the Opposition in March 1975. In this period he was Opposition spokesman firstly on primary industry and, later, labour and immigration. Some files date from an earlier period when he was Minister for Education and Science in the McMahon Liberal- Coalition Government (1971-72). Many files are concerned with the development of Liberal Party policy in the early 1970s. Among the other subjects covered are abortion, Australian Labor Party policies and senior ALP figures (Dr Jim Cairns, Clyde Cameron, Al Grassby, E G (Gough) Whitlam), Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, budgets, economy, Schools Commission, elections, electoral redistribution, employment, foreign affairs, industrial relations, legislation (e.g. Trade Practices Bill 1973, Family Law Bill 1974), manufacturing industry, Fraser's overseas visits to South East Asia, London and Canada in mid-1973 and the wool industry.
