Prior to this, individual filing systems had been maintained by administrative officers. In the course of establishing this sequence, relevant files were gathered and classified in accordance with the three-number classified numbering system devised by then Head of Central Registry, Denis Smith. The files record all facets of the central administration of the University including policy, finance, AUC submissions, enquiries, incitations and circulars. They pertain to mainstream academic sections such as faculties and departments, but also to associated entities such as Melbourne University Press and the Melbourne Theatre Company.These boxes are numbered 1 to 505.
