2012.0031 FLETCHER JONES BUSINESS AND FAMILY RECORDS [1918-1993] Creator(s): Jones, Sir David Fletcher [14 August 1895-22 February 1977], Fletcher Jones & Staff Pty Ltd [-] This collection is a constructed archive of Fletcher Jones' documents and images created by David Fletcher Jones, son of Fletcher Jones, prior to his death in 2011. Drawing from many sources, the collection contains records relating to the Jones family and family companies; various drafts of Fletcher Jones' autobiography "Not by myself"; records of Fletcher Jones and Staff Pty Ltd (and related entities), including records of the Board(s), manufacturing, marketing and personnel activities; staff newsletters and examples of advertising. Sir Fletcher Jones' activities are well documented in the collection, as are the Board activities especially in the later years (1990s), Between the time of the archive's creation and its transfer to the University Archives, various items were selected for retentions by the family. Items were originally boxed by David Jones into approximately 76 containers and these were identifed in an alphabetical sequence for example "A", "B" etc. When the initial 26 letters were used (with gaps), boxes were given identifiers of "AA", "AB" and so on until the box "BM" was reached. An additional 8 boxes complete the group and these were listed as "XX1" to "XX8". Anomalies exist with, for example, box "AJ" or "AI". In both of these cases there was a second box with this designation, which was listed as "AJ II" and "AI II" respectively (denoting the second "AJ" and "AI" box). The original inventory suggests that Mr David F Jones created the inventory as records were received; consequently similar or related records were not always grouped into a single sequence or box. Mr DF Jones created a subject coding/titling system to overlay the inventory, grouping records into various subjects, to facilitate access to the collection. For example FJ Foundation was coded FDN ; Legal documents are coded LEG. Both original box numbers and subject codes are included in the attached finding aid as previous control number in the format Subject/Box. A copy of Mr David F Jones Box and Subject arrangement is included with the finding aid online. In 2014 UMA secured Miegunyah funding to conserve and clean collection photographs and objects. As part of this project the Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation (CCMC) created item data for all folders (containing multiple photos), single photos and objects. Item number range used for the CCMC project is 2012.0031.00900 - 2012.0031.01127. Item numbers removed from this sequence include empty folders 2012.0031.01004; 2012.0031.01048; 2012.0031.01104 and missing/duplicated items 2012.0031.01116; 2013.0031.01127. 92 Units (14.61m) Business, organisations
