2013.0127 [Administrative records and publications of the Opportunity Clubs]
Date Range of Records: 1939-1972
Creator(s):
- Opportunity Clubs [1939-c.1973]
- Social Policy Archive [1993-1997]
This collection is comprised of a single file with records concerning the foundation, make up and functions of the Opportunity Clubs; annual reports and some publications. The single file contains the Opportunity Clubs Policy Statement, constitution, organisation chart, membership pledge, standard letter to parents of new members, brief summary of the Group System and Managing Committee order of retirement (ie: lists of names and dates). It is likely this file was manufactured with these documents brought together to form this record. The Annual Reports include the balance sheets and are illustrated, later ones include advertising. They list the office bearers of the Clubs and the activities and achievements of individual clubs and centres for the year. Note that Reports are missing for the years 1967/8 and 1971/2. The Brochures include Youth Leadership training material from Boy Scouts Association, pamphlets produced by the Opportunity Clubs for fundraising and entertainment purposes and an annual report from the Victorian Association of Youth Clubs, with which the Opportunity Youth Clubs were affiliated. The series was transferred from the RMIT Social Policy Archive where it had been transferred in the 1990s as part of a collection strategy to capture the records of community sector organisations operating in the welfare sector. Within the SPA, these records were identified as series 40-41 & 43 and were combined into a single series during processing at the UMA. It was the practice of the SPA to item number material in order of its receipt irrespective of the series it was later allocated; these item numbers and generally their order have been retained.
