2013.0113 [ADMINISTRATION AND CORRESPONDENCE FILES]
Date Range of Records: 1891-1988
Creator(s):
- Citizens Welfare Service Of Victoria [1946-1996]
- Social Policy Archive [1993-1997]
This series consists of subject files created by the Citrizens Welfare Service, known at CWS as Resource Files. Generally they are arranged alphabetically by file title however some later transfers do not retain this arrangement. Some files are also labelled with A/1, A/2, A/3, B/1, B/2, B/3 style of code however this appears to have been superseded by the alphabetical arrangement. The files contain documents on subjects such as policy development or precedent issues and they also contain material kept for reference. The files contain correspondence, reports, papers, notes and newspaper cuttings created or collected by the Citizens Welfare Service and its predecessor agencies. Note that subject headings are not always consistent, for example, a file of 'statistics, marriage guidance, attorney-general' may be found under s, m or a. The files have been retained in their original order as far as it can be determined. The series was transferred from the RMIT Social Policy Archive, The RSPA arrangement of the records suggests that boxes 1-48 comprised the first transfer from CWS; boxes 49-56 formed another transfer. Later, small groups and individual records were received and housed in boxes 57-58. A final transfer of files formed boxes 60-82. During processing at UMA, the files on either side of box 82 were rehoused in boxes 58- 59. Two boxes that would have been placed between boxes 81-82, having RMITSPA numbers of 327 and 328, were not found when the records were transferred to UMA and are therefore missing from this series. In processing, the RSPA Item ranges have been retained in lieu of a full item listing of file titles and these item number ranges were found to be complete and accurate; no missing items from the ranges was noted in the sample examined (comprising 23% of all boxes).
