This series contains 2 record categories, as follows: 1. STUDENT REGISTERS - 7 in total, all held in transfer 2006/112: a) Temporary Teachers Certificate Numbers, 1966: Only the first five pages of the notebook have been populated with information. The information comprises the student's name and the certificate (number) awarded. It is assumed that if certificates were awarded, that these entries relate to completed students; b) Record of Trained Secondary Teacher's Certificates: Higher Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) and Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) 1957-1970. This small notebook exists as a register of certificates awarded to students. Details included are the student's name, certificate course name, date certificate awarded and certificate number. It is assumed that if certificates were awarded, that these entries relate to completed students. N.B. - The binding of this small bound volume is starting to come apart; c) Statements and Transcripts Issued, 1970-1973. Courses include Interns Trained Secondary Teachers Certificate (TSTC); Diploma of Teaching (Secondary); Higher Diploma of Teaching (HDT); External Students, (TSTC); Diploma of Education; Higher Diploma of Teaching, Secondary (HDTS); TSTC (Physical Education); External Studies; and Approved Course of Teacher Training (ACTT). Details included are the student's name, course name, date certificate / diploma awarded and award number; d) Statements Issued, 1973: Names only are included in this register. It is assumed that this volume relates to transcripts issued; e) Statements Issued, 1974: Names only are included in this register. It is assumed that this volume relates to transcripts issued; f) Suspensions, 1972-1974: Discontinued students. This register includes the student's name, reason for discontinuation of studies and the date the student discontinued / suspended their studies. The register is organised alphabetically, via surname; g) Name Changes, 1972-1974: This register includes details of the student's old name along with their new name. In most cases this relates to the change from maiden name to married name.
2. STUDENT CARDS - Surnames A-Z, spanning 1936-1983 (complete and discontinued students), all held in transfers 2006/111 and 2006/114: these two sided cards include; SIDE 1: student personal details, leaving / matriculation studies, course undertaken and; SIDE 2: Examination results by year of studies, teaching record, name, course status (completed, pending etc.). Some cards also carry photographs of the student. The format of the cards changed over the years but the basic information remained very similar. Where students discontinued studies, the reasons are noted, for instance: death, transfer to other colleges / universities, resignation etc. Where practical work such as teaching rounds were undertaken the card often notes contact hours, pass or fail, competency of the teacher etc. Courses included: Approved Course of Teacher Training (ACTT); Diploma in Primary Teaching (previously the Trained Primary Teacher's Certificate TPTC); Diploma of Education (Dip. Ed.); Diploma of Teaching (Secondary); External Students; Higher Diploma of Teaching (HDT); Higher Diploma of Teaching, Secondary (HDTS); Interns Trained Secondary Teachers Certificate (TSTC); Trained Infant Teacher's Certificate (TITC); Trained Art and Craft Teacher's Certificate (TACTC); Trained Secondary Teacher's Certificate, Physical Education (TSTC); Trained Teacher Librarian Certificate (TTLC). Whilst this collection is small in size, these records are important as they most likely exist as the only source of results for Melbourne Teachers' College. |
