History :

On 26 October 1966 the Faculty of Arts Standing Committee received from the Arts Planning Study Group a proposal to establish a Dean's Committee. The Committee would have the power to co-opt further members, including faculty members outside the Standing Committee of Heads of Departments for the consideration of specific questions. Reference to this Committee can be found in the minutes of the Faculty Assembly at a meeting dated 7th December 1966. The Deans Committee is here referred to as a 'planning' committee responsible for planning and as having a watching brief on policy questions affecting the faculty in addition to advising and assisting the Dean.
