University Of Melbourne. Faculty Of Arts. Budgets Committee
History : The Faculty of Arts Budgets Committee was established by the Committee of Heads of Departments in order to meet newly imposed internal responsibilities for faculty budgeting. This environment was created by the University Council having passed a resolution requiring three tier budgeting in 1970. The inaugural meeting of the Committee was conducted on 7 April 1971 with Professor Poynter in the chair. Under the terms of reference, it was required to review the budgets of all faculty departments and identify their problems. This was to include reference to staffing allocations, departmental votes, research grants and decisions re allocation of money from the contingency fund. The Committee reported to the Central Budgets Committee. It is unclear when the Committee ceased, but the minutes office holds no records post 1980.
