University Of Melbourne. Department Of Pathology
History : Pathology was taught in the medical course incidentally at first, Harry Brookes Allen becoming Lecturer in Anatomy and Pathology in 1881, and Professor of Descriptive and Surgical Anatomy and Pathology in 1882. In 1906 he took the new Chair of Pathology. In 1925 Peter MacCallum took up duty as Allen's successor. Edgar J.S. King occupied the Chair 1951-1966. A museum to contain pathological specimens was planned and commenced at the Melbourne Hospital, at the instigation and expense of the University, as a result of the efforts of Anthony Brownless. The museum was moved to the University in 1883.
