History : The Conservatorium Drama School began in 1943 with Miss Eileen O'Keefe as its Director. A teacher of speech in many Catholic Schools, notably Mandeville Hall, Miss O'Keefe also directed classical drama and taught speech to music students at the University Conservatorium. She was subsequently asked to expand her programme to include students interested in drama and theatre. This was the genesis of the Drama School, which never had a formal charter, but expanded quickly with an influx of Servicemen and women, funded through Army Rehabilitation. It closed in 1952.
