Union Of Australian Women
History : The Union of Australian Women (UAW) in Victoria was founded in 1950 as a left-wing women's political group to work for the status and well- being of women all over the world. Foundation members included Communists, Labor Party supporters, Christian activists and members of the New Housewives' Association. Early goals included equal pay for women, abortion law reform, better welfare services and nuclear disarmament amongst many others. The Victorian UAW celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2000 with the publication of 'Left Wing Ladies: a history of the Victorian UAW' by Morag Loh and Suzanne Fabian.
