Biography: Born in Boulder, Western Australia, George Richard Tibbits was educated at state schools in W.A and Colac, Victoria, before studying at the University of Melbourne (B.Arch. Dip. TRP). After working in London, he lectured in architecture at the University from 1968 until 1995, becoming the Chairman of the Department of Architecture and Building. As a member of the Carlton Association, he was active in the campaign against the Victorian Housing Commission's scheme of "slum" clearance of Carlton in the late 1960s.
