Stone, William
Biography: William Stone joined the Victorian Railways as an "electric foreman" in 1883, rising to become Chief Electrical Engineer in 1913. In 1917 he served on the State Brown Coal Advisory Committee. Stone was also a member of the Engineering Faculty, researching in a number of fields, including lubrication, radiology and wireless transmission. He was also renowned for his experiments with X-rays, assisting H.J. Grayson in the design of machines to produce diffraction gratings and micro-rulings, and assisting A.G.M. Michell to produce his crankless engine. William Stone died in 1949.
