Gilbert M Ralph, MBE, OAM, joined Western Mining Corporation (WMC) as a Design Engineer in Kalgoorlie in 1962. This commenced his 42 year career with WMC in Kalgoorlie, Perth and Melbourne. During the 1970s he was involved in the management of WMC's gold operations. He was transferred to WMC's Melbourne office in 1980 and was responsible for producing the company's annual reports and other publications before retiring in 1994. In his retirement he was a publications consultant to a number of mining companies and wrote technical reports, collated histories of many entities and wrote 450 biographical sketches of natable mining people. In 1979 Gilbert was awarded an MBE for his role as Chairman of the Arts and Entertainment Committee of Western Australia's 150th Anniversary Celebrations and in 2005 an OAM for his contribution to the collation and recording of Australian mining history. |
