Biography: |
Charles Moorhouse (1911-2002) was educated at Melbourne Grammar and the University of Melbourne. He was employed as an assistant engineer by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, and in 1946 as senior lecturer in Electrical Engineering at this University where he was to be Professor in that department from 1948 until 1976. In 1974 Professor Moorhouse became a member of the Academic Advisory Committee, and in 1976 a member of the Interim Council of Deakin University. He addressed a variety of groups on engineering and related topics. Professor Moorhouse died 2 July 2002. The Rev. William Edmund Moorhouse was Charles' Moorhouse's father; Charles Alfred Topp was his maternal grandfather. Topp's career included teacher inspection and training, chairmanship of the Board of Health, under-secretaryship of the Chief Secrtary's Department and several other public service activities including being the first Public Service Commissioner of Victoria. He was Warden of the University Senate 1886-90 and member of the Council from 1890-1896. |
