Masson, Sir David Orme

Biography: Masson was educated at Edinburgh University where he obtained M.A in 1878, B.Sc. in 1880, D.Sc. in 1884. He held a lectureship for one year under Prof. William Ramsay at University College, Bristol and Residential Fellowship at Edinburgh from 1884 to 1886. In the same year Masson was appointed Prof. of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, holding it until his retirement in 1923. In addition to his university duties, Masson made a significant contribution to the advancement of science, he took a leading part in the foundation of the Advisory Council of Science and Industry (later CSIRO) and at various times presided over a number of national scientific and research organizations.
