History : Mary Kathleen Uranium discovered by Walton McConcachy Syndicate. Rio Tinto Corporation (London) acquires 56% share holding in 1954. Mary Kathleen Uranium Limited operated a mine in the Cloncurry area, Queensland. It was the first major venture developed in Australia by Rio Tinto after their diversification into Australian mining and exploration. During its first period of operation, 1958-1964, the mine proved a successful venture and provided much of the capital used by RTZ to expand its later Australian operations. The mine was later reopened and operated by the CRA group from 1976-1982.
