Macdonald, Daniel
Biography: Daniel MacDonald (c1846-1927) was the first Victorian to work as a missionary in the New Hebrides (Vanuatu) with Rev. John Paton. He co-translated the Bible into Melanesian and published a number of books on the language. In 1886 MacDonald was responsible for alerting the Australian authorities to the presence of the French on Malekula Is. This action was to lead to protest and the withdrawal of the French from the New Hebrides.
