Higgins, George
Biography: George Higgins was born at Borriso'kane, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, son of the Rev. John Higgins, Wesleyan minister (and brother of H.B. Higgins). The family arrived in Melbourne in February 1870; and in February 1875, George passed the Matriculation Examination. That year he enrolled at the University of Melbourne in Civil Engineering, graduating M.C.E. on 7 April 1888. He was appointed Lecturer in Surveying, 1905-6, Surveying, Civil Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering 1907-10 and Civil Engineering in 1911-21.
