History : From the age of 14 soon after arriving in Melbourne John James Clark worked on the staff of the Colonial Architect and was responsible for the desighn and supervision of the project to construct the New Treasury in Spring Street (1857). In 1880 JJ Clark set up private practice in central Melbourne. Between 1881 and 1896, he relocated several times between Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia in pursuit of commissions and employment. He travelled to Europe in 1889 with his 21 year old son, Edward James (b.1868). In 1896 Clark and his son formed a professional partnership that lasted until the death of JJ Clark in 1915. The father and son partnership practised at 295 Collins Street.
