Creator:
Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, Victorian Division
Earliest: 1993
History : In May 1992 Actors Equity (AE), The Australian Journalists Association (AJA), and the Australian Theatrical & Amusement Employees Association (ATAEA) amalgamated to form Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance. The uniting of the Australian entertainment and media sectors was subsequently followed by the music and art workers sectors, when the Symphony Orchestra Musicians Association (SOMA) and the NSW Artworkers Union also joined the Alliance. This move was followed by the Screen Union, which was reconstituted under the auspice of the Alliance, and the creation of a Professional Sports Branch. In 2013 the MEAA is considered the professional body covering all persons working in entertainment and its related industries including publishing, web production, journalism and public relations (http://www.alliance.org.au/lists/1-media-entertainment-and-arts-alliance?Itemid=).
Activities/Occupation: Trade Unions
