Biography: Mina Fink nee Miriam Waks, was born in 1913 in Bialystok, Poland. Orphaned as a young child and raised by grandparents, she matriculated in 1932. In the same year she married Leo Fink and emigrated to Australia. From 1944 to 1947, Mina Fink was president of the Ladies Group of the United Jewish Overseas Relief Fund which involved collecting and packing parcels of clothing and food to send to refugees and war victims overseas. In 1947 she was an executive member of the Australian Jewish Welfare and Relief Society and in this capacity she met new immigrants, helped to establish migrant hostels run by the AJWRS, conducted fundraisining activities and assisting orphans. Mina Fink was the Director of the Australian Jewish Welfare and Relief Society (1947-1976), President of the National Council of Jewish Women Victorian Section (1958-1960) and its National President (1967-1973), foundation worker for the Jewish Holocaust Museum; chairman and delegate to several other Jewish Councils. Mina Fink was awarded an MBE for community service, particulalry to Jewish women. She died in 1991.
