Opportunity Clubs
Earliest: 1939
Latest: 1939
History : The Opportunity Clubs were established in 1939 as a non-political and non-religious organisation to promote the interests and welfare of young people, “especially the poorest” and to procure recreational and educational opportunities for young people. The Opportunity Clubs operated under a range of different names in various localities and provided social settings for young people to mix and enjoy recreational activities. By the early 1970s the Clubs were under great financial distress and the annual reports discuss the prospect of their imminent demise; the precise time of their winding up is not known.
