Biography: Born in Czechoslovakia, Vera Ray settled in Melbourne with her family when she was fifteen. After gaining a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Russian, she married, had two children and eventually divorced. Ray then studied for her Diploma of Education and worked as a teacher for twenty-two years while returning to university to major in English and History. Ray's political involvement began in 1976/1977. She took part in organising and being involved in many activities, including the Lesbian Action Group; Women Patriarchy and the Future Forum; Open Conscious-Raising Groups; Women and Labour Conferences; Salon-a-Muse; LesboRaves; National 10/40 Conferences; Matrix Guild; Jewish Lesbian Group of Victoria; Lesbians Over 40 Gatherings and Women and Psychology Conference. Ray taught Assertiveness Training at the Council of Adult Education and has written several papers, including 'Counseling Gay and Lesbian Clients' and 'Domestic Violence Among Lesbians'. This is collection No. 137 of the Victorian Women's Liberation and Lesbian Feminist Archives.
