Biography: This contributor is No 147 of the Victorian Women's Liberation and Lesbian Feminist Archive. Born in California in 1941, Ardy was raised and schooled through 9th grade in Compton, a suburb of Los Angeles, then attended a private girls high school before attending the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in history in 1962. Ardy came out as a Lesbian in 1963 and got sober in 1967. She taught social studies in high school until 1975. For the rest of her wage-earning life, she worked in an variety of usually highly-principled part-time jobs (at very low pay). She performed all over the USA as stand-up story teller, living in Arizona, Hawaii and California. After visiting Australia twice and becoming involved in the Lesbian community (Matrix Guild, POW and other collectives), Ardy moved to Melbourne in 2000. Ardy describes herself as a Lesbian-activist in all ways. In addition to records at UMA, Ardy Tibby's records can be found in The June Mazer Lesbian Archives, West Hollywood and the Sonoma County Lesbian Archives, both in California as well as in AQuA, the Australian Queer Archives in St. Kilda.
