Established in 1962 in the ACT as an incorporated body, Australian Frontier was “entirely dependent upon voluntary donations and company contributions”. Its purpose was to assist Australians to develop for themselves a responsible society. Australian Frontier encouraged the study of the roots of social, economic and political problems. It did this by providing for free and objective confidential discussion between people with different points of view with a recognised common interest in a problem. Its activities were directed toward ensuring priority for human relations and values in a society under threat of being overwhelmed by rapid technological change. Australian Frontier existed in order to help people communicate to find ways in which the organisation of society can be adapted to make it possible for each individual to contributes to the future creatively and responsibly. Australian Frontier’s mandate was based on its impartiality, its insistence that all points of view be heard and its emphasis on personal and social responsibility in the study of society. Fundamental to Australian Frontier’s operations was its insistence that social responsibility is only likely to be accepted if all people involved in a particular issues discuss it face to face. Its view that corporate study by people concerned with various aspects of a problem was as crucial to society as management was to industry. Its refusal to relieve people of their responsibility and its capacity to help them discover the ways in which that responsibility can be discharged.” (Source from a 1970 Consultation Report) |
