2013.0027 [CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS, REFERENCE PAPERS & NEWSLETTERS]
Date Range of Records: 1983-1992
Creator(s):
- Youth Policy Development Council [1984-1996]
- Social Policy Archive [1993-1997]
This collection comprises correspondence files, reports and reference files and three newsletters from the Youth Policy Development Council. The correspondence files were created by the Council’s secretariat, the Bureau of Youth Affairs and make up half of the collection. The reference files contain reports and reference papers produced or collected by Youth Policy Development Council. Much of this material is not readily available elsewhere. Topics covered range from sporting facilities, sports administration, drug abuse, child care and child abuse to income support, education and energy conservation. The newsletters survey the aims and composition of the YPPC, meeting dates and venues, activities and projects, and youth issues in general. The final item in the collection, Item 44/676 is “A social atlas: Melbourne at the census 1971”, a publication mapping the social structure of Melbourne based on data gathered in the 1971 census. The series was transferred from the RMIT Social Policy Archive where it had been transferred in the 1990s as part of a collection strategy to capture the records of community sector organisations operating in the welfare sector. Within the SPA, these records were identified as series 27, 44 and 74 and were combined into a single series during processing at the UMA. It was the practice of the SPA to item number material in order of its receipt irrespective of the series it was later allocated; these item numbers and generally their order have been retained.
