| Subject files maintained as Minister for Education and Science. The files in this series were maintained by J M (Malcolm) Fraser during his second term as Minister for Education and Science in the McMahon Government (1971-1972), although not all files relate specifically to that portfolio. The files are arranged in lexicographical order by broad subject title and include interdepartmental and other reports, departmental memoranda and correspondence, submissions from lobby groups, publications etc. Subjects covered include Aborigines, Anglo-Australian telescope, Australian Labor Party education platform, 1971-1972 Budget, Commonwealth Scholarship Schemes, disadvantaged children, education facilities and policy, financial assistance to students, foreign policy, independent schools, Liberal Party, metric conversion of weights and measures, nationwide survey of educational needs, Parliamentary matters, research and development, science policy, states grants and other legislation, teacher training, universities, wool and rural industries etc. Two items only are currently held at the University of Melbourne Archives (see list for details).
