2006.0020 [CORRESPONDENCE WITH MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION]
Date Range of Records: 1974-1975
Creator(s):
- Fraser, John Malcolm [1930-2015]
Correspondence with members of the Liberal-National Country Party Opposition, maintained by J M (Malcolm) Fraser during the period he was Leader of the Opposition (March-November 1975). A small number of papers dated December 1975 relate to the Opposition period rather than the month Mr Fraser was caretaker Prime Minister. The correspondence covers a range of subjects, including Parliamentary handling of key issues such as the Khemlani Loans Affair and the Queensland electorates of Lilley and Ryan. Several letters reflect the different views on the overall political situation held by some of Mr Fraser's colleagues (e.g. Dr A J Forbes, Ian Macphee, Senator R C Wright) and others. Papers on the relationship between the Commonwealth Public Service and government, defence policy, minerals and energy policy, North West Shelf gas, Pilkington ACT Ltd and secondary industries in North West Tasmania are also included. Formerly National Archives of Australia series M1358.
