The material in this collection was transferred from the Communist Party of Australia Victorian Office when it closed in 1991. The collection included three broad sections of material. First, a wide range of information material and administrative files; Victorian State Committee Conference minutes; CPA Women's Collective minutes, correspondence and subject files; History Collective files; Marx School material; Education Collective and National Schools; Head Office Subject files; publications and correspondence from contemporary social movements and campaigns such as women's liberation, CICD, PND and gay liberation. Second, boxes of socialist and communist pamphlets and publications from 1900 on arranged by subject. Third, a large photograph collection.
The initial section of the collection described was the photograph collection which is fully listed in the first finding aid attached. Subsequently, a selection of 191 images from this list were digitised and made available online through the digitised items catalogue. Many more photographs have not been digitised; for a list of these photographs please consult the other attached finding aid.
A second draft list of the information and administrative files was completed in 1992 and has since been relisted. This second finding aid covers all of the remaining non-photographic material. In this second finding aid, units 59 to 224 are primarily socialist and communist pamphlets, but also contain some primary material including minutes, correspondence, party education course material and newsletters. These units are listed at unit (box) level only. The rest of the collection is listed at item (file) level. To order material, please quote the unit number and where appropriate the item number. |
