This collection contains the records covering Sir Edward Woodward's involvement with the Stevedoring Industry from 1965 to 1972. Woodward was initially appointed by the Federal Government to conduct an inquiry into the industry, however this was soon overtaken by the establishment of the National Stevedoring Industry Conference, which he chaired from 1965 to 1970. Papers relate to Edward Woodward's work as Senior Counsel for the Yirrkala Aboriginal People in the Gove Land Rights Case (Milirrpum v Nabalco Pty Ltd in 1970-71). At the invitation of the Prime Minister, Mr. E G Whitlam, Justice Woodward conducted a Royal Commission into Aboriginal land rights in the Northern Territory.
