Introducing Our Collection

The University of Melbourne Archives (UMA) was established in 1960 to collect and preserve records of the University and of Victorian business for historical research. The University's official records date from its foundation in 1853. The business collections document the enterprises of Victorian businesses across many industrial sectors. In the early 1970's UMA broadened its collection scope and began to collect the archives of trade union and other labour-related bodies, professional associations and community, women's, peace and political organisations. Complementing these organisational collections are the personal papers of individuals prominent within them.
