Organised Labour in Gippsland

The South Gippsland Fishermans Union was a short-lived attempt to unionise Victorian coastal fishermen. It later became the Port Albert Fisherman's Union. The University of Melbourne Archives holds minutes of meetings of the Union from the 1890's.

Records of the Australian Coal and Shale Employees Federation include Powlett River Branch accounts, wages books, contracts, household coal development fund records, correspondence and awards from the period 1909-1968. Also included are records of the Miners' Federation, Victorian District for the years 1921-1960 and the Wonthaggi Vigilance Committee 1969-1970.

The papers of Bill Rankine, a unionist and local amateur historian, also contain files on the Wonthaggi Branch of the Miners' Federation.
