Prominent Engineers

The Unviersity of Melbourne Archives holds a large number of collections of the papers of prominent engineers. These include the over 2,000 drawings of AGM Michell's crankless engines, the papers of Sir Ian McLennan (former President of the Australian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy) and George Gordon (Chief Secretary of the Victorian Lands and Works Board from 1872 to 1875).

This list includes surveyors, commercial and marine engineers. The mining and architecture subject guides list engineers involved in these two fields. The Encyclopedia of Australian Science contains a comprehensive database of the papers of prominent engineers held throughout Australia.
