"The Research and Graduate Studies Secretariat was part of the University’s Central Administration until 1984 when it was replaced by the Office for Research, also within Central Administration. Frank Lees was its first Executive Officer (Research) for research liaison after 1984". UMA entry on Frank Lees: "From November 1984 he was Executive Officer (Research) in the University of Melbourne’s new Office for Research which took over the functions of the former Research and Graduate Studies". There was a committee on Research and Graduate Studies: UMA entry reads "The Committee on Research and Graduate Studies was established by the Professorial Board to deliberate, and make recommendations upon regulations pertaining to Post Graduate and Research Degrees. The subjects of discussion included such topics as procedures for the resolution of marking disputes, and determination of standards for the submission of written work". Dates of existence are not indicated.
