History : |
Gryphon Gallery was established in 1972 as part of the Melbourne CAE. The Gallery exhibited works by arts and craft staff and students but was also encouragingly available to artists & craftspeople in Melbourne, interstate and overseas. The gallery aimed to provide professional space for the display of work which would build a reputation amongst tertiary institutions and the general public. It also aimed to be place on campus where staff & students could make contact with developments in the visual arts - an important alternative to commercial galleries. The gallery ceased to operate in 1991 (?) and after undergoing alterations is now used as a conference room and available 'space' in the Graduate Centre (1888) building. |
