On 3 December 1977 Mrs. Rosa Simper was murdered in Cheltenham, an Adelaide suburb. On 3 March 1978 Edward Charles Splatt was arrested and subsequently charged with the murder. On 24 October the trial commenced, Splatt being convicted on circumstantial evidence, much of it 'scientific', and sentenced to life imprisonment. Over the following years, various appeals and submissions were made and enquiries held. In 1983 Professor Wright was among the scientific experts consulted as to the evidence brought in the case and supported the defence. This accession is comprised of Splatt case material including roneoed transcripts, Wright's notes on the case, and his report in ms. and ts., correspondence, submissions.
