2001.0073 Papers of Albert Edward Woodward [1939-1978] Creator(s): Woodward, Sir Albert Edward [1928-15 April 2010] This collection contains the records covering Sir Edward Woodward's involvement with the Stevedoring Industry from 1965 to 1972. Woodward was initially appointed by the Federal Government to conduct an inquiry into the industry, however this was soon overtaken by the establishment of the National Stevedoring Industry Conference, which he chaired from 1965 to 1970. The conference was then replaced by a statutory authority - the Stevedoring Industry Council, which Woodward chaired until he went on the bench in 1972. The bulk of this collection is comprised of reports from the Australian Stevedoring Industry Authority (A.S.I.A.) from 1964 to 1972. The reports also cover background material to the Inquiry, and general comments about the Stevedoring Industry. There are also a number of submissions by the A.S.I.A. and associated companies to the Stevedoring Industry Conference. A number of printed publications relating to the waterfront industry are also included. Also Stevedoring Industry Council Minutes from 1970 to 1972 and correspondence to and from Woodward. 4 archive boxes (.68m) University, individuals
