Broken Hill South Limited
Earliest: 1875
History : Broken Hill South Limited was a member of the Collins House Group and was involved in the mining of silver, lead, and zinc. Its mine opened in 1885 and closed in 1972. The company continued to trade until the 1980s soon after a takeover by Western Mining Corporation. Broken Hill South was, with North Broken Hill, one of the largest of the Broken Hill lead-zinc mines and a major member of the Collins House group of companies. During the nineteen thirties it diversified into various other mining activities including a wide scale programme of mineral exploration. The mine itself closed in 1972 with the bulk of its operations being taken over by CRA, North Broken Hill and WMC. The company changed its name to B.H. South Ltd on 6 Dec 1973 and voluntarily wound up on 1 Jun 1983.
