History : The Wallaby Club is the oldest walking club in Australia. Founded in 1894 by physician Dr Louis Henry as a recreational and cultural fellowship for professional men. Original membership was set at 21 but gradually increased to 100 and expanded to include business men. Membership was maintained by selecting people who fitted into the group. Main activities were weekly walks and dinners and the meetings were conducted during these activities. In 1895 internal strife led, in 1899, to a reconstruction. Wallabaiana - members' wit and literary efforts - was collected and recorded, mainly on dinner cards. Many notable people have been members.
